The 2024 Mr. Olympia Recap

Oct 19, 2024

By Shawn Ambrosino

The 2024 Mr. Olympia was more than a contest – it was a battlefield. New champions were crowned, former champions fell and we saw the new standard of size and symmetry. This year’s contest wasn’t just about muscle – it was about mindset – where only the strong survived. Here’s how having a Mr. Olympia mindset leads to that coveted Sandow statue. Let’s get into this…

The Olympia is the ultimate proving ground…

Where we see legends made as we witness the clashing of mere mortals, gods and monsters during one epic night.

If there’s one thing this year’s Olympia taught us – it’s that the age of complacency is dead. In a sport built on pushing limits – we just witnessed one of the deepest, most competitive lineups in recent memory – where mental strength mattered almost as much as physical strength in this yearly contest.

A Mr. Olympia Mindset

At the very top of the mountain – Samson Dauda emerged victorious – becoming the 19th man to hold the Sandow Trophy. Samson didn’t just win – he dominated… out-muscling former champions Hadi Choopan and Derek Lunsford – both of whom came in with expectations to reclaim the title.

Dauda’s conditioning was next-level…

He brought a perfect balance of size, symmetry and shredded conditioning that screamed “Sandow” and earned him a record-breaking $600,000 payout. That’s a lot of cheddar. The dude just redefined what it means to be an Olympia champion.

And while Dauda reigned supreme, the 2022 champ – Hadi Choopan – had to settle for second place. He was peeled to the bone but didn’t pack the same knockout punch as Dauda this time around. While last year’s winner – Derek Lunsford – also found himself humbled with a third-place finish.

Both of these guys are warriors – but in a lineup this stacked – even a small misstep can knock you off your throne.

What’s even crazier? This is the third consecutive year we’ve had a new champion. The era of dominance – with guys like Dorian Yates, Ronnie Coleman and Phil Heath – is over. Now, it’s a dogfight every year – and 2024 proved that only those who evolve survive.

Of course, while this was the main event…

It wasn’t the biggest story of the 2024 contest.

The End of an Era

If you’re talking about a Mr. Olympia mindset – then there’s certainly one name that stands out…

C-Bum.

As always, the Classic Physique division didn’t disappoint – as Chris Bumstead continued his reign – pulling in his SIXTH consecutive title. Bumstead’s physique is the epitome of the old-school golden age – perfect lines, insane conditioning and a presence that leaves people in awe.

There are many that say the Classic division might be the future – however, it will have to become so without the stalwart champion…

Because C-Bum decided to walk away from competition. While many were shocked – it makes total sense – as he gets to walk away at the top of his game, and even more important, on his terms.

But there’s more…

Pound-For-Pound Monsters

Such as the 212 Olympia – where Keone Pearson walked away with back-to-back victories. In a division where every pound counts – Pearson’s balance of size and symmetry made him untouchable – which left fan favorite Shaun Clarida – in second place.

These guys are pound-for-pound monsters – and the level of conditioning they bring is insane…

They may be smaller in stature – but their intensity is off the charts.

But as I said earlier…

Becoming Mr. Olympia isn’t just about the muscle – it’s about the mindset.

Samson, Chris, and Keone all showed up with that killer mentality – that Mr. Olympia mindset…

That relentless drive to outwork everyone else and step on stage like they’re already champions. These guys aren’t paying thousands of dollars for some life-changing weekend retreat to be told to “embrace their feelings.” They’re getting under the iron every damn day and unleashing their inner monster.

If there’s one takeaway from 2024 Mr. Olympia – it’s this: Only monsters survive

The era of the meek is over. If you want to stand with the titans – you’d better show up ready to wage war. Not just against others – but against your own weaknesses.

Cultivating A Mr. Olympia Mindset

There were many that were just a few small mistakes away from winning…

Our advice?

Train hard, eat harder and foster a champions mindset because, like Samson, C-Bum and Keone showed us…

The only thing separating you from the top is your capacity to adapt in the face of adversity.

Adapt or get left behind…

2024 was an exciting chapter in the Olympia book – and we can’t wait to see what happens in 2025.

For some, the process is already starting.

It takes a LOT of hard work and dedication to bring home the most coveted trophy in bodybuilding – and you’re not going to win it by doing things half-assed…

And victory is right around the corner.

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger
