The Toughest Women We Know

May 10, 2025

By Shawn

This is the time of year when we get to celebrate the women that made us who we are – or at the very least – made us. Our moms. They may not be perfect but the fact that we are here on this planet is testament to the toughness of mothers. So, here’s to the toughest women we know – our moms… let’s get into this.

Forget flowers…

Forget overpriced brunches…

And don’t even think about the shallow and empty Hallmark garbage that turns Mother’s Day into some kind of pastel participation trophy.

You want to honor your mom?

Then start by acknowledging the truth…

She’s the toughest human being you’ve ever known.

We’re talking about a woman who didn’t need a pre-workout to find energy. She may have needed a little caffeine and/or nicotine to stay awake – but mostly – she ran on willpower, gut instinct and the constant need to make sure you made it out of this world alive.

So, this is our manifesto to those women that shaped our world…

The good, the bad AND the ugly – they’ve been there through it all.

No Rest Days, No Excuses

Mom didn’t get rest days…

She didn’t get to tap out.

She fought battles you never saw and carried loads you’ll never understand…

All while making you think everything was just fine. That’s strength. That’s discipline. And it was a savage love that drove them to keep going – not for them – but for us.

When you were sick, scared, sad or broken – she didn’t flinch.

She leaned in. Because that’s what moms do. They show up. No matter what. While the rest of the world calls in, checks out or folds under pressure…

She doubled down and went to war with whatever life – her’s or yours – threw at her.

Toughest Women We Know

Let’s be real: she didn’t always get it right.

She lost her cool.

She made mistakes – but she never quit.

You know how rare that is, right? In a world full of quitters, your mom showed up – day after day – without asking for recognition or applause.

That’s not weakness or softness…

That’s the kind of strength you want to bottle and sell for $1 million each.

The kind of resilience that can’t be taught. It’s earned. Forged in sleepless nights, sacrifice and doing hard things over and over again without a damn break – and in most cases – without so much as a “thank you”.

Built for Pain and Power

You think hitting 405 on the bench is hard or makes you tough? She went through labor. And then raised you. That’s pain, patience and power all rolled into one.

So today, don’t just say “Happy Mother’s Day” like it’s a chore on your to-do list…

Say it like a Spartan saluting the paedonomos (look that one up, guys) that trained them for battle.

Look her in the eye and thank her for the grit. For the fire. For the morals and attitude.

And yeah – maybe for smacking some sense into you when you needed it.

Live What She Taught You

Because whether she’s still here with you or watching from above – or whether she was a good mom or bad…

She built you.

Every ounce of strength you’ve got – started with hers.

So honor her with more than words…

Live like she taught you. Work harder. Be better. Don’t quit.

And if you’re lucky enough to still have her – call her. Not because you have to. But because real ones don’t forget where they come from.

“Being a mother means that your heart is no longer yours; it wanders wherever your children do.” – George Bernard Shaw
