This may shock some who read this – but not everybody lifts. You would think that with all the new research and information – that everybody would be running out to join a gym – but they’re not. They should – but they’re not. These are the top reasons why EVERYBODY should lift – regardless of sex, age or ability. Let’s get into this…
Can you imagine how PACKED gyms would be if EVERYBODY lifted?
I don’t even want to think about Monday’s and how many people would be waiting to use the benches…
However, it’s not something we have to worry about, is it?
Not everybody lifts…
But they absolutely should.
There have been countless studies that show the benefits of resistance training for health and longevity…
But I’m not going to bore you with those details.
We’re going to talk plainly…
We’re going to discuss the common sense reasons why everybody – and I mean EVERYBODY – should be lifting weights.
So, I figured that to really get the experience – I’m going to talk to you as if you DON’T lift…
We’re going to pretend that this is the day you decided to go to the gym – because for somebody reading this – it COULD be that day.
Ready?
These Are The Top Reasons Why Everybody Should Lift
So…
You’ve finally decided to stop talking the talk – and start walking the walk…
AWESOME!
You may not realize it now – but you’ve just made the best decision for your life – both the quality and length of it…
First thing’s first… you need to understand that this isn’t your grandma’s aqua-aerobics class.
This is where the weak – and weak-willed – start to change their life…
This is where they become strong and the strong become stronger.
So, let’s answer the question at the top of your head…
“Why should I lift weights?”
Well, let’s go over a few of the reasons…
Transform Your Body: Nobody wants to look like they could get blown over by a stiff breeze…
A little muscle can go a LONG way – and transforming your body with resistance training will make sure you not only look sturdy – but ARE sturdy.
We’re talking about building muscle, losing fat and creating the physique that will fill out the arms of your shirt.
And…
The opposite sex tends to prefer bodies that are more toned.
Boost Your Brain: Now… lifting doesn’t just build muscle; it builds brain matter.
Studies show that resistance training will have you sharper than a tack and have the focus of a laser-guided missile.
Bye-Bye Stress: Had a rough day? Watch that stress melt away after a training session…
The gym is like therapy, but instead of talking about your feelings, you’re crushing weights.
Now…
This is all great – but now that you’ve made the decision to start – how do you?
Getting Started
The first step in any journey is always the hardest…
Which is why we’re going to set you up for success by making a plan – because as the old saying goes: If you fail to plan… plan to fail.
So, where do we start?
Set Realistic Goals:
Rome wasn’t built in a day…
And neither will you.
Aim high but be patient… and realistic.
You’re not going to look like Arnold in the first year – but you can set achievable goals like increasing your bench and squat by 20% in 12 months.
Learn Proper Form: Ego lifting doesn’t impress anybody…
Especially if you’re doing it wrong. If you want to grow…
If you want to progress – you need to concentrate on your form.
Plus…
Poor form leads to injuries – and nothing hampers progress like injuries.
Diet Matters: There’s an adage we’ve said in gym culture for decades: You can’t out-train a bad diet.
If you want to grow – you need to feed your body with high octane fuel.
Clean protein, clean carbs and fats will go just as far as benching 400 pounds.
Rest and Recovery: As important as diet is – recovery is just as important.
Muscles grow when you’re resting – not just when you’re lifting.
You may think that doing more work is the key – but I can tell you – resting will unlock gains more than lifting twice a day.
So, there you have it…
Step one.
What’s Next
Now that you’ve begun your journey…
What’s next?
Well, that’s going to have to be a conversation for another day…
For now, you’ve got enough to chew on for the beginning of your iron journey – it may not sustain you for long – but it’ll keep you full long enough to get to the next tier.
We’ll go over a lot of it in Part 2 of this series.
Until then, you’ve got a little homework with figuring out your goals.
I’m looking forward to our next talk.
Wait till you find out about plateaus…
Your’e going to love them.
Until then…
Welcome to the iron playground.
It’s going to be tough, sweaty, and at times, you’ll question your sanity…
But stick with it – it’s totally worth it.
