5 Tips To Avoid The Holiday Heafties

Sure, as Shawn said last week – it’s bulking season – but for many, that “bulk” comes with a lot of extra pudge. So, I figured we could talk about 5 tips to help you avoid the fluff during the Holiday Season – while still enjoying yourself. Let’s talk about it…

Ok, let’s be honest – the holidays test all of us…

Between the food, parties and “you deserve it” talk – discipline tends to disappear.

Shawn said it best in his “It’s Bulking Season” article – there’s a difference between eating to grow – and just letting yourself go.

The goal this season isn’t to avoid the fun…

It’s to control it.

Whether you’re cutting, bulking or maintaining…

These 5 tips will help you stay in shape while everyone else is waiting until January to start their journey.

Tip 1: Earn Your Feast

If you’re going to indulge – earn it.

Schedule your heaviest training sessions before your biggest meals.

Crush legs before Thanksgiving, hit back before Christmas dinner and you’ll be able to let those calories go toward recovery – not regret.

Intense training boosts metabolism, glycogen storage and mindset.

You’ll feel less guilty when you’ve already put in the work.

When you walk into a feast knowing you trained hard – you’re not “cheating” – you’re refueling.

So, after when everybody is in their carb comas – they’re just being lazy – while you’ll be growing. That’s the key: making the food work FOR your goals – not against them.

Tip 2: Don’t Drink Your Calories

Holiday calories add up faster in liquid form.

Eggnog, peppermint lattes cocktails – all loaded with sugar that kills your progress.

Swap them out for water, black coffee or flavored hydration drinks like EAA+ HYDRATION.

You’ll save hundreds of calories and still feel satisfied.

EAA+ HYDRATION is DELICIOUS – it’ll help kill cravings, boost focus and keep your recovery rolling.

Save the calories for real food – not empty sugar calories…

You don’t need to sip your downfall – drink smarter and stay in control while everyone else is over doing it.

Tip 3: Choose Your Battles

You don’t need to avoid every dessert – just the ones that aren’t worth it.

Pick your favorites and skip the stuff that’s just “aiight”.

The key is control – not deprivation.

Enjoy your aunt’s famous pumpkin pie if it’s something you love – but don’t waste calories on store-bought junk that’s made by some stranger and loaded with chemicals.

Being disciplined doesn’t mean saying no – it means saying yes intentionally

Eat what matters, skip what doesn’t and remember your in this for the long game.

One dessert won’t wreck your progress – but mindless grazing all season long will.

I’ve seen how the candy or goodies at a job can lead people down a dark and treacherous road.

Tip 4: Keep Your Routine Tight

The easiest way to lose progress over the holidays?

Break your rhythm.

One skipped workout turns into a week. One missed meal prep leads to chaos.

Keep your routine locked in – even if it’s a shorter session.

Consistency is your secret weapon. You can’t out-eat laziness – but you can out-train temptation.

Traveling? No excuse. Staying active keeps your body aligned and your mind focused.

The holidays don’t change your goals – but they DO test them.

Stick to the plan and let your discipline drive the car – because there’s very little motivation in the world that will get you off the couch after a turkey dinner. Just keep to your routine. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll progress.

Tip 5: Don’t Let Fear Ruin the Fun

This season isn’t about fear – it’s about balance.

One big meal won’t erase months of hard work…

Bu t quitting your habits for six weeks will. Enjoy the food, laugh with family, and get right back on track.

Shawn said it best: “You’re either building or you’re burning.” You control which one you’re doing.

If you slip up, don’t spiral – just course correct.

The holidays should add joy, not guilt. You’ve earned the right to celebrate – now keep your standards high while you do it.

5 Tips To Avoid The Holiday Hefties

At the end of the day, it’s simple…

The holidays don’t make you gain weight – habits do. Hopefully, these 5 tips will help make it a little easier to stay on track.

Follow them, stay active, stay aware and don’t let a few festive meals turn into months of excuses.

You can enjoy the season without undoing your progress – it just takes intention and a little discipline.

Celebrate, but stay vigilant.

When January hits, you won’t be starting over…

You’ll already be ahead.
